17 year period where Mercury is the ruling planet of your life
You look act feel and behave like mercury
Most people have a successful Mercury period
Of course a lot depends on lagna, house placement of mercury, sign it is in, and other factors.
Most people reach their intellectual prime in this period.
Comes after shani MD, which is tough for most people. So this is a welcome transition.
You said your fav transition is from Shani to Mercury Mahadasha. Why? Why not Ketu to Shukra, which is so anticipated? Why Shani Mercury.
Ketu has its own beauty and peace, which most people low key miss in the Shukra MD which brings opulence and luxury but reduces peace, spiritualty and freedom.
In Shani period you are crushed by the chakki of Shani and despite your best efforts, you keep struggling. There are instance of insults, bullying, low confidence, lack of resources.
Mercury often transforms you into someone totally different. Confident, clear and resourceful. You are able to claw your way out of almost anything. It is like a Gandadhar to Shaktima transformation.
How does this Mahadasha transition feel?
First 1 year can be difficult. There are a lot of changes. Often this brings change of place, change of work, change of people.
Once you are settled, your brains works at more than double the previous speed and you are able to see things clearly
Right place right time which was so rare in Shani, is often the norm in this.
New found clarity and confidence, I made on short on this. (Hum Bhi dekhenge).
How does Mercury Mahadasha affect speech, confidence, and education?
It is the plane of speech, education, and confidence, you become good at all 3 of these.
Mercury MD people talk a lot and often talk fast.
They are able to “connect the dots” and see what other people miss
This clarity brings confidence. Remember clarity is the mother of confidence.
Mercury is the planet of education and often people find a sudden burst of intelligence in their brains and they are able to do this one thing which I often see as they somehow find that they are in the subjects which are sort of made for them. Many make a transition from difficult subjects to the subjects which they were born for. For example, somebody is struggling with science might change, somebody stuck in a competitive exam might start business. So they go from the place they were misfit during Shani to the place where they fit in during Mercury
"Does Mercury Mahadasha bring sudden wealth and business success?"
This is more of a myth. Mercury is the planet of intelligence and success but everybody wants that grand success to become a billionaire overnight. That will not happen. While many people succeed financially in Mercury, you need to be reasonable about what you expect. So sudden wealth and business success no but yes ability to focus, ability to think better, the ability to connect the dots. And so all of this comes to you and then you are able to make the right decisions and when you make the right decisions, life is good
How do I know if Mercury Mahadasha is benefic or malefic for me?
That depends on the chart overall. I can not randomly say, "Okay it's good for you, bad for do," although I would say 80% people have a good Mercury. The exact placement, the conjunctions, and how that is all that needs to be considered
What if Mercury is combust?
This is often asked to me: So Mercury and Venus are technically never combust. Mercury is the Prince, the Prince is not afraid of the King, and Mercury and Venus they often travel one. They can maximum go away one house away from the Sun so they are almost always in a close vicinity. So by that logic very few people would have a non-combust Mercury. While technically Mercury does get combust, in my experience Mercury and Venus are immune to the heat of Sun so they do not get combust
What happens in Mercury-Rahu, Mercury-Ketu, and Mercury - Shani periods?
So these are three periods where Mercury does give some negative impact. The sorrows of humanity were divided into Rahu, Ketu, and Shani. These three are the punishers.
Mercury and Rahu are often a better time for most people because Mercury and Rahu are friends. But again it depends where Rahu is sitting, what is its situation, its position as compared to Mercury, and where Mercury is placed in the chart. But Mercury and Rahu have seen people do something unethical and get into trouble
Mercury-Ketu is one last time you lose connect with your brain in this entire Mahadasha. This one-year period often brings a certain jerk, a certain shock which can put you away from your intelligence while you focus on spiritual and deep matters. For this one year, you are sort of detached from yourself. You become so spiritual; intelligence is activated and material intelligence sort of subsides during this period but once Mercury-Venus takes over, it's a good time
Mercury-Shani is not necessarily bad, although it slows down your thinking, it brings some sort of domestic issues. Again depends where Mercury is sitting with relation to Saturn and how Saturn is placed in the chart. But it's not very good, it's not very bad, it's okay-ish so here is when your intellect starts to slow down and it pays the way for Ketu Mahadasha.
What remedies strengthen Mercury?
There are many remedies for Mercury. The best thing which I suggest is doing breathing exercises which help your brain to operate better and planting a lot of trees. Doing Buddha Mantra and keeping Buddha Silver Yantra are also remedies which anyone can do. However, not everyone should be doing heavy remedies.
Should I wear Panna in Mercury Mahadasha?
No unless you know where your Mercury is placed, what's your Lagna, how it is impacted, one should avoid wearing gemstones. I have my own gemstone business but I don't randomly advise people to wear gemstones. One has to be very very sure about the impact of gemstones before wearing it. So please talk to your astrologer before wearing a Panna
Which is a better period Mercury, Venus, or Jupiter?
In my books, Mercury is a benefic, but Jupiter is the supreme benefic. Shukra is the wisest, but there are traces of the Daitya Guru in it which does bring some things which I do not wish to talk upon about in a public platform, but yes, Venus can be tricky for many people, even for those who have a good Venus.
Mercury is a lot of intelligence, but it not necessarily has the wisdom. Mercury is the short-term planner. Mercury is the monarch of merchants and the prince of thieves. Remember, Mercury has a dark manipulative side. Mercury would do anything for the short-term gains, anything for a buck. These guys become real hustlers and go-getters but the long-term wisdom that Shukra and Guru have, Mercury unfortunately does not have. He is not a teacher; he's a student. He is not a gyani; he's a hustler.
So I always tell people to use your buddhi but let it be guided by your ethics. Otherwise you can get into trouble
What are the pitfalls that a person should avoid in Mercury Mahadasha
ARROGANCE: Mercury gives the person a certain amount of arrogance because when you see things very clearly, other people appear as sub-human to you. You think you are the smartest person in the room and you tend to bulldoze people. Then Mercury has a certain unethical aura around it because Mercury, remember, is the Prince of Thieves. It has often been associated with a little grey character like Loki and if I talk about Indian mythology, Narad Muni is somebody who can be associated with Mercury. While his intentions are good, he can create a lot of chaos. Mercury enjoys chaos. I've often seen heavy Mercury people have ADHD.
SHORT TERM THINKING: Mercury has a habit of thinking short-term and getting things done by any means necessary. They often look at short-term gains but do not bother about long-term impact
WIN AT ANY COST/UNETHICAL PRACTICES: remember Mercury is not only the goody-goody planet of students. It is also the monarch of merchants and the prince of thieves. There is an unethical, dark, manipulative side to Mercury where a person can take unethical steps and later get into trouble. Always do the right thing. Think long-term and do the right thing. Let your Jupiter have some influence on you during Mercury period. Otherwise you are more likely to create difficulties for yourself out of being extra smart. Mercury will make you smart. Remember to be ethical and do not be over-smart because every planet has a dark side and so does Mercury. Although it's a great period, you should use your buddhi with control and niyam. Do not use unethical practices, do not treat people arrogantly, and think long-term. Remember whatever arrogance you will throw around, next come Ketu Mahadasha you will realize it was just a passing phase so learn to be humble.
